Dear Editor,
Please give me permission to respond to Ms Danuta Radzik regarding an article published in your Nov. 09 2016 print. It is really great that we have a strong representative for gender equality. However, I am of the opinion that the word gender equality might be misinterpreted in my community. Can Ms Radzik please outline what form of equality are we talking about, list few points what gender equality is trying to achieve and what it means.
This information will help men, in particular for understanding and can also assist in the gender equality achievement. My focus is mostly on the female gender. My understanding of human beings is that life has certain needs for completing the survival process. Emotional needs, psychological needs, financial needs, growing needs, procreating and independence. If equality means to share the space with other genders in achieving these needs then I most welcome such agendas. However, I am mostly concerned with the failing well-being of the future generation which we have started to inherit already by failed parenting.
A child is the future. Their mind is accumulated by recording of data, everything consciously and unconsciously, sleeping or awake. Emanations from neighbours, friends and teachers are being gathered through their five senses. This is what makes or breaks them; their future is determined by the data they have gathered or recorded. As a parent every emotion you emote, every thought you generate, every word you speak and every action you take will exaggerate all and better them. Isn’t it most important that by knowing this they get as much of these data from their parents as possible?
A female is the deity of love and compassion; they can create the most perfect home, ambience, environment and loving children, healthy meals, clean laundry and above all nurturing. See what happens when this is missing. When you ask most females who are not financial earners what do they do, they would reply by saying, “Oh, I am just a housewife”. Do they really know what a housewife is? Men need to start recognizing and complementing their wives for being a housewife, focus and education are needed here.
A housewife controls with effectiveness the emotions, the diets, infrastructure, appliance, finance, marketing, education, health care, agriculture, utilities and so much more. But sharing the space for earning will always affect good parenting. There are many studies done on this subject. I am asking if this is an easy task. I am not against earning if there is a financial need then you must look at your priority.
These needs should be the main topic before marriage; many couples avoid having these discussions of needs. Parenting is an 18 to 20 years commitment, the kind of parents you have today determine the kind of generation we will have tomorrow. My suggestions to Ms. Radzik for achieving well-being for all human beings which is what the UN’s SDG’s is hoping governments to work on, are lobbying governments for setting up structures and plans or a compensating package for housewives.
If the government is really concerned about the well-being for the next generation, then creating an environment or policies for females to focus on parenting is what really should be their main focus . Those who are seeking financial success can follow that need but must make responsible decisions towards child bearing. We have too many psychological cases around that were created by this irresponsible behaviour.
As a male gender I am willing to assist with your plan for achieving your goals, but you must understand that educating all genders is the best option for a successful transition. Let us first work on the educational aspect of your program. Empowering the female gender can be a disastrous ideology if the educational aspect is not focused and directed efficiently. I wish to reflect this statement on the recent data of 14 women killed in 11 months. Every party and stakeholder needs to be aware and informed by way of outlined programs. Please note my community understands gender equality for women and girls means power and financial independence.
