Inniss’ friend, Shane Carter, who was shot to the right foot in the process, is hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a stable condition.
Yesterday, a police source said that information had been received that Inniss and another individual were involved in an argument some two weeks ago and as a result, the man threatened to shoot Inniss.
Kaieteur News understands that the mechanic was standing on the road some two weeks ago when another Sophia man, passed in a car and jammed him.
As a result of this, an argument escalated, during which Inniss allegedly broke the man’s windscreen—the man retaliated by chasing him with a cutlass. The suspect reportedly threatened to shoot Inniss.
The source said that they are looking for the suspect to question him in relation to the murder.
In a release, the Guyana Police Force said that investigations revealed that about 21:00 hrs on Thursday, Inniss and Shane Carter of Ramsingh Street, ‘B’ Field, Sophia, were in the company of several other persons when the shooting occurred.
According to information received, a dark-coloured motor car drove up and three armed men exited the vehicle and began discharging rounds at the two men. They then reentered the vehicle and left the scene.
Both victims were rushed to the GPHC where Inniss succumbed.
No one has been arrested.
