Parenting determines the nature of the next generation

Dear Editor,
The URP has penned a letter in your newspaper concerning suicide in Guyana. Again stakeholders on the matter of suicide are far from suggesting solution to this situation. I wish to share my views with your permission. If you ask any stakeholder or representative regarding suicide they will come up with a million reasons to suggest the causes, causes is termed as situations. It has never happened before and will never happen in the future that human beings can curtail any situation around them 100% or will have any situation happen 100% in their favour.
What need to be curtailed are human beings. You cannot transform a situation but you can transform human beings. I must commend the Vice Chairman, Dennis Deroop for inviting me to sharing my views with other stakeholders in the Region 6 district. The Region has a slogan that says to “CHOOSE LIFE” a perfect wording but it is only words. Isn’t it absurd to tell someone to choose life? You can share all the necessary literature, philosophy and religious beliefs, but soon as you leave the individual they still have the entire situation to face all over again. Boyfriend, girlfriend, parents, spouses, drugs, alcohol, financial, political and I must mention the religious situations.
It is sad to say that from your kindergarten to your PhD has anyone teaches you about life or what it means to be human? When I say life I am speaking about an inward dimension. It is a way to control your mind and your emotions. When someone says something to you, your body releases chemicals that cause disturbances in your system. In other words what happens within you is 100% yours, so when you think that agitations, anger, hatred, anxiety and sadness is cause by outside forces you must know it is all yours.
As there are tools and technologies to create comforts and conveniences for human beings to enjoy, there are tools and technologies to create inner well-being. If you learn to control your mind and emotions would you give permission to anyone to create disturbance in your system?
I am working with small groups and changes are happening but not fast enough. I wish for government’s intervention in formulating policies to effect this change. It is much work and explanation as to how to start. The tools and technology are in compliant with the United Nation 17 SDG, which is why I am offering my service on a voluntary basis in creating well-being. Please note that youths are humanity in the making, the kind of parents we have today determine the kind of generation we will have tomorrow.
