…bloody clothing found by cops at home of suspect
The police intensified investigation into the execution style murder of an East Canje livestock farmer, after a post mortem examination conducted on the body showed that the man was murdered.
The lifeless body of Itwaru, 38, of Lot 84, Gangaram Settlement, East Canje, Berbice was on Tuesday afternoon found on Ring Road.
The post mortem examination conducted by Dr. Vivikananda Brigmohan, at the New Amsterdam Hospital, gave the cause of death as shock and hemorrhage due to gunshot injuries. The autopsy revealed that the man was shot four times to his upper body. When he was found his motorcycle was parked at the centre of the access road.
The body was found around 15:00 hrs by a fisherman who was coming out of the backdam at the time. The fisherman upon noticing the body realised that it was Itwaru. He also saw what appeared to be gunshot wounds and marks of violence on the face.
In the meanwhile one of two men in custody was released, while the other, who had an altercation with the man some time ago over cattle and land issues, remains in custody. He reportedly had threatened to end the man’s life during that fall out. He is being grilled and is reported to be a prime suspect.
It is also learnt that sleuths of the Police B Division had recovered some clothes with blood from the man’s home.
Investigators are working diligently on the case and have revisited the area on a number of occasions in their effort to crack the case. They also revisited the family of the deceased and took statements from residents in the area.
Investigators are working on a number of theories including that Itwau had purchased a plot of land from his father-in-law and had developed the land to do large scale farming. He had stopped persons from using the area which led to a dispute.
It is also reported that rustlers had stolen a number of his animals. He received some leads and sought to embarrass them, by putting the information on Facebook. It was also reported that those persons in turn, had set out to kill him.
The investigators are working on the theory that Itwaru was shot by someone whom he knew. When he was found his bike was parked on its stand and his body was lying close by. It is theorised that he had stopped to speak to the person and was shot.
The man is the father of one and leaves to mourn his wife Rosie Hemraj.
