Dear Editor,
I am convinced that no matter where one lives, things can be just as one has envisioned: beautiful, peaceful and enjoyable. Guyana certainly is not the (negative) country most make it out to be. Some newspaper articles are not for reading. For example, a certain PPP aligned newspaper carried a headline in its August 28, 2016 issue: “Guyana ranks poorly on Intl Business index… on par with war torn Pakistan and Tanzania.” The writer of that article was so distraught (in my opinion) that he/she didn’t even realize that, in the same report, the Spice Island, Grenada, scored 53 (a mere 1.63 points more than Guyana) and Suriname scored 47.69 ( 4.41 points less than Guyana). These countries were also ranked poorly by the same index and are also considered difficult to do business with.
As Guyanese it is imperative that we not lose hope. Many are constantly praying for our dear land. We all have a great vision for Guyana. However, just like we do in putting together a jigsaw puzzle, we look to the north, south, east and west, and take the good from these places, wanting them to happen in our own country quickly. Unfortunately, many times we fail to recognize these places also have negatives, and that the good things they showcase, and those that we covet, did not come easily. History is always sobering.
Guyana therefore can be whatever we fancy it to be. The power is in the citizenry. The government is a body of individuals who may not share that same ideas and fantasies of the general populace. Perhaps it would help to literally have persons in the government do the work of the country from their own homes, as it seems that taking up residence in a public office washes away all humility and integrity. Let us, as Guyanese, continue to keep hope alive. I pray the reporters become even more cautious and critical in their reporting. Guyana can be whatever we want it to be. We can have all that we have envisioned.
Guyanese Patriot

It should be taken in the context of where Guyana was in years gone-by; compared to our present situation. The difference is as plain as night and day. Guyana have certainly fallen from grace “so to speak”
Support for ones country, also means that if things are running “afoul” it is the duty of all to speak, to be critical, to express their feelings. When the citizens of Guyana are bombarded with the NEVER ENDING acts of corruption from the elected officials, the sentiments of support becomes a very difficult task.
