A woman, who works as a cook in the interior, was yesterday placed on $180,000 bail on being indicted on a fraud related charge, when she appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that between August 30, and September 15, at Puruni Landing, Alicia Maniram being solely entrusted with a bag of garlic, a bag of potatoes, a quantity of sanitary napkins, all-purpose seasonings, $40,000 cash, among other items by Marlyn Barrington to sell and return the proceeds to the said Barrington; she fraudulently converted the articles to her own use and benefit.
An unrepresented Maniram pleaded not guilty to the allegation. She told the court that she has a nine-year-old son and no pending or previous matters.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt had no objection to the defendant being granted pre-trial liberty. This matter has been adjourned to September 27, when it will be called before the Chief Magistrate for statements.
