Block-maker’s decomposed body fished out of Berbice River

The body of 25-year-old Elroy Lewis who allegedly plunged to his death on Tuesday in the Berbice River,

was found yesterday morning at the Savannah Park area in the Berbice River.

According to information disclosed by Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam, residents saw the body and alerted the police, after which coast guards went to the area and retrieved the body, which was
positively identified by his relatives.
The Commander stated that Lewis’s body bore no visible marks of violence. According to the Commander, Lewis’s friends who were in the boat were all held for questioning, statements were taken and they were subsequently released.
Amsterdam indicated that investigators are awaiting the post mortem examination which is expected to be conducted today.
Elroy Lewis left his home on Tuesday around 8:00 am to join friends on the fishing outing which turned sour after he allegedly plunged from the boat they were traveling into the river.
The father of the deceased, Lord Lewis is seeking clarity from the police as to the circumstances surrounding his son’s demise.
