Dear Editor,
Since there has been an increase of fatal accidents on our roadways, I wish to bring to attention of the Traffic Chief and Public Security Minister to ONE of the reasons for the carnage on our roads.
Editor, only a few days ago I was in a mini bus on the East Bank of Demerara that was without a conductor/conductress (I realized this when I got in the bus). During the journey, persons who wished to embark at different points had to shout for the driver who would then turn around and converse with same. He would also collect monies while driving. During one of those “shows” the bus by inches, nearly ran into a trench by the Rahaman Turn.
Editor, I would like the Traffic Chief to tell the nation if it is LEGAL OR ILLEGAL to have a 13 seater mini-bus driver without a conductor/conductress. Before that aforementioned incident, I wrote letters and spoke to several persons in authority but to no avail. Since I have noticed the activism of the Traffic Chief and the Public Security Minister in this daily travesty, I hope that this problem can be rectified as early as possible because a few years ago I think there was some sort of enforcement.
