A 29-year-old man was jailed for three months after admitting to robbing another man of an iPhone valued $85,000 last week Wednesday, at Longden Street, Georgetown.
Kennard Persaud, of Regent Street, Georgetown told the court, “I indeed tek way he phone but me never stick he up with no knife”.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones said that on the day in question, Ronald Oselmo was in the vicinity of the Footsteps Store, when he was confronted by Persaud, who pointed a knife at him and relieved him of the articles. Jones told the court that the bandit made good his escape on a bicycle but was later apprehended by police.
According to the prosecutor, police searched Persaud and recovered the phone in his pants pocket. Jones said that the victim identified the phone as his belongings.
In mitigation, Persaud begged Magistrate Fabayo Azore for leniency and told her that he did not premeditate to rob the man. He claimed that he was experiencing a difficult time finding a job.
Persaud told the court that he has children to maintain and has no one to assist him. He however promised the Magistrate to never appear before her again.
It was revealed that the convict had served 18 months in prison on a narcotic charge conviction.
Meanwhile, in another case, Javid Safee, a mason, was jailed for three years and fined $30,000 after he was found guilty of trafficking 2.5 grammes of cocaine.
Safee was busted with the illicit drug on March 16, at Brickdam by a Police Sergeant who was seated next to him in a minibus. The Sergeant had boarded the minibus from Madewini and was heading to Georgetown
It was revealed in court that the policeman was alerted by the smell of the marijuana and conducted a search on Safee when passengers disembarked the vehicle at the park.
The illegal drug was discovered in a black plastic bag.
