Relatives of Taramattie Seegobin, who was killed on July 9, last, at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) by an alleged ‘drunk’ driver have expressed frustration at the pace at which the police are conducting their investigations.
They claimed that it has been more than two weeks since 35-year-old woman was killed and the driver, known as “Super Dave”, is back on the road. Seegobin, a mother of two, of Lot 175 Better Hope, ECD, was walking on the Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, heading to a shop to purchase a juice for her daughter when she was struck down by the speeding car. She died on the spot.
According to information received, the driver of the vehicle drove away from the scene but returned when another driver drove behind him.
Devika Lall, the dead woman’s sister is demanding that justice be served since her sibling left two small children behind. “We heard that it is not the first time this driver hit down people and pay his way out.”
When contacted yesterday, a police source said that traffic ranks have to seek legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the way forward. He explained that Seegobin’s case is simply “a sour compensation deal.”
According to the source, the victim’s relatives accepted compensation from the driver but have somehow changed their minds and are now calling on the police to lay charges against “Super Dave.” However, Lall explained that Seegobin’s husband cannot read or write but yet signed a document after collecting $100,000 from the driver’s father.
“He (victim’s husband) had no idea what he was signing. The man (driver’s father) gave him the money to help with funeral arrangements and made him sign on the paper,” Lall said.
She further explained that the driver’s father told her that he does not have more than $700,000 to offer to the children of her sister. “My sister life is not worth $700,000.” The file will be prepared and sent to the DDP for advice sometime this week.

Wow, advantage takers. He needs to be charged with murder, why are they waiting to send papers to the DPP???????????????????????? I know this game. He has taken a life, a husband is without a wife and the kids are without a mother. Oh my goodness, what has become of Guyana and the citizens???? It seems that people there are heartless now and it was never ever like this back in the days, compassion was the key then compare to now.
