‘E’ Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, said that his division (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice/Mabura) had a 38 percent drop in serious crimes compared to the corresponding period last year.
Commander Brutus attributed this success to the hard work of his ranks. For the same period last year there has been a decrease of 300 percent in murders. Sixty percent of these murders have been solved. There was a 100 percent crime solving so far this year.
There was a 900 percent decrease in robbery under arms with 90 percent solved last year, and 100 percent solved this year. Every robbery with violence case was solved in 2015 and none has been recorded in 2016.
Rape and simple larceny increased by 47 percent and 66 percent respectively. Last year, all the rape cases were solved but only 14.2 per cent have been solved this year. Simple Larceny only 14.2 percent was solved in 2015 but 23 percent solved in 2016.
Break and enter and larceny recorded a decrease of 30 percent. A whopping 83 percent were solved in 2015 and 21 percent for the corresponding period this year.
There was no recorded incident of burglary in 2015. Only one this year.
Commander Brutus said that his ranks worked tirelessly to get crime on the decrease in the Division and he will work to ensure that it remains low.
