BVI thump Dominica, Bahamas demolish Barbados

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Bahamas recorded comprehensive victories when the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U16 Championship continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
BVI mauled Dominica 82-37 while Bahamas hammered Barbados winning the contest 100-41. BVI’s pace was awesome from the start and they took an early lead finishing the first quarter 18-11. They continued their dominance in the second quarter picking up 28 points while Dominica only managed seven to leave the score at 46-18 at half time.
The break did little to aid Dominica’s cause for the remainder of the match with the BVI finishing the third quarter with a 30 points advantage, 59-29. Kiandre Clarke scored a game high 16 points including nine rebounds for the winners while Jomoi Levons got 15, Elian O’Neal 14 with nine rebounds and Renrick Masaac Jr 12.
Such was BVI’s dominance that none of the Dominican players got into double figures with their highest scorer being Keniah Ashford with 8; Joshua Lestrade and Kiefer Francis got 6 each. Barbados struggled to match Bahamas which maintained their unbeaten run. Detarrio Thompson led the Bahamians with 15 points inclusive of seven rebounds while Christopher Johnson contributed 12 with eight rebounds.
Bahamas utilised their speed to good effect and by the end of the first quarter they were leading by 20. Barbados showed little resistance and could only muster 26 points by half time while Bahamas amassed 51.
The third session was no different as 11 points each came from Michael Williams, Samuel Hunter, Michael Cartwright and Alfredo Brown enabling the Bahamas to amass 74 points while Barbados had 36. Domnick Bridgewater assisted with 10 for the victors. Kiserian Adams and Renico Brewster got 10 and seven respectively for Barbados.
