Dear Editor,
I have been following the ongoing parking meter controversy in the media with much interest, (maybe the better word is dismay?) more especially since as a driver in Georgetown; the issue is likely to directly affect me and my pocket at some time or the other.
Maybe a better approach to the whole thing would have been for someone to verify the authenticity of foreign companies who they would wish to do business with by utilizing the resources available to them within Guyana, such as a credit check on the parking meter company in this case. Since we have a credit bureau in Guyana now, shouldn’t their services be utilized to do these checks?
This would certainly have saved the council some embarrassment and negative publicity. In fact, I would say that the check can still be done, since the allegations are still flying thick and fast. It will be interesting to see which side will do it first.
Riad Kamal
