Guyana names teams for CBC U-16 Championships

The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) and Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) have named their final teams, which will battle in the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Under-16 Championships, July 2-16, in Guyana.

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will host 10 male and seven female teams from the Caribbean at the 2016 Championships. Guyana last hosted the CBC Championships in 1999; it has been doing a lot of work to have a memorable regional event next month.
“After several weeks of training and evaluation of the nation’s top Under-16 prospects, a final 12 Men and 13 Women were named to respective national teams,” a release from the YBG Director, Chris Bowman, who is organising both teams, said yesterday.
According to the release, the final 12 Women will be announced before a ‘Congress of Delegate’ prior to the Men’s Championships tip-off on July 3, 2016.
“The men team suffered a major setback with the omission of Yonnick Tappin, the talented sharp shooter from the Mining Town of Linden, who sustained a leg injury, and would be out for three weeks,” the document continued.
Guyana’s National Male Youth Basketball Team include: Kevon Wiggins and Kelmar Carmichael, (New Amsterdam Multilateral); Shamar France and Jermaine King (Berbice High); Andrew Johnson and Nigel Bowen (Plaisance Secondary); Roydon Glasgow (Bishops’ High); Akeem Crandon and Kareem Boyle (President’s College); Jordan Alphonso and Jahleel Young (Marian Academy) and Zion Gray (Tutorial High).
Guyana’s National Female Youth Basketball Team include: Annalesa Barker (New Amsterdam Multilateral); Saffiya Greene (Berbice High); Daniella King (Plaisance Secondary); Kesann Charles and Jayla Jones (Bishops’ High); Onika Rogers (Kwakwani Secondary); Demelza Nicholas and Annalisa Barclay (President’s College); Jada Mohan, Georgianna Vyphuis, Kellian Sauers and Jahrier Young (Marian Academy); Rashida Hinds (United States).
The release said that both teams will be encamped for the remainder of the time leading up to their respective tournaments. Several competitive exhibition games are planned for this period. These games will be open to the public.
