A mother’s heart is now at ease after the recovery of her two teenage girls who went missing from her Parika, East Bank Essequibo home a week ago.
Florie Edwards, of 369 Peters Street, Parika, East Bank Essequibo had faced the task of investigating and distributing information which eventually aided in the recovery of her two daughters, 14 years old and 15 years old.
Kaieteur News understands that police acting on information on Thursday last, swooped down at Bushy Park Beach in Parika where the runaway teenagers were found in the company of two males. The men are believed to hail from Anna Catherina. However, 17-year old “Helicopter” and 21-year-old “Aggi” were the only call names provided.
Family members believe that these are the same males that were seen with the girls the night before they went missing. They were reportedly taken into police custody at the Parika Police Station for further investigations.
The two girls were recommended to be placed into the New Opportunity Corps but their mother opted for her daughters to return home and receive counselling at the Welfare Office. “I can smile now; they are home. My husband and I get to pray with them and talk them through.”
She said that she had the opportunity to take the girls home after she had received good reports from the girl’s medical assessment. Edwards told Kaieteur News that she does not want to pursue the matter in court against the two males since she believes that her girls had run away from home on their own volition.
She said she hopes that with care and counselling, her girls can go back to school.
“I’m just happy they are alive and well…I’m so grateful for all those people who gave their support to help look for them,” the mother said.
Commander of ‘D’ Division, Steven Mansel, said that investigations are still on-going.
