Samantha Williams is Miss Big, Bold and Beautiful
They were big, beautiful and certainly very bold. They were the plus-sized women
Samantha being crowned by Franchise Holder for the Miss Big, Bold and Beautiful.
who strutted their stuff on stage Thursday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground. They gyrated with abandon and modelled with grace and poise. And the audience just loved them for their sassiness and confidence.
Their attitude spoke volumes- but particularly, that they are women comfortable in their own skin.
There were six contestants in all, each representing a school of their choice, and donning the requisite uniforms.
The evening’s proceedings were interspersed with song, poetry and dance, which were all professionally done by the various artistes.
However, it was the group dance by the six delegates at the commencement of the show that set the mood for what was to come.
The big girls of course, did not disappoint.
They captivated the audience with their every move, and although all of the contestants did well, it was Samantha Williams with her bubbly personality and beautiful smile that won the judges’ nod and at the show’s culmination, secured the crown.
A crowd favourite from the get go, Williams seemed energized by the positive crowd response. She pulled out all the stops.
She however did not perform as well in the question and answer segment. But for the judges, all the preliminary hard work that this contestant had put in was enough.
Securing the first runner up position was Ananda Primo, while Samarla Wilkinson was adjudged second runner up.
Shevon Arthur, another crowd favorite, did not place, much to the ire of some fans who felt that she should have been the winner. Arthur looked gorgeous in a beautiful flowing black evening gown.
Ananda Primo chose a red and gold gown which featured the Guyana flag boldly emblazoned on the front, while Samarla Wilkinson cut a striking figure in a red gown, highlighted by an embroidered top. The winner, Samantha Williams, looked enchanting in a blue and silver ensemble, which she modelled to perfection.
Asked how she felt about capturing the coveted crown, the modest Williams confessed that she was very happy, but felt that there were a few things that she could have done better.
The six contestants were Shevon Arthur, Samarla Wilkinson, Sudrina Williams, Aduni Daniels, Samantha Williams and Ananda Primo. A former Big, Bold and Beautiful queen and popular boxer Shaundell Parks performed as guest model. (Enid Joaquin)
