By Sean Devers
The place to be on Indian Arrival Day (May 5) is the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) which should be a hive of activities when C&A Unique collaborates with South Quake Youth Ministries to host what is anticipated

to a riveting Jubilee Futsal Competition.
Fifty teams are expected to clash for one prize in a grand one-day one game knock-out five-a-side 10-minute indoor football competition which the organizers says will see 25 Church teams meeting 25 Street teams for the top prize of $50,000 and a trophy.
The national holiday should provide football fans with plenty of action starting from 08:30hrs and a large crowd is expected since adults will play $400, while children under 12 will be admitted to the homestretch Avenue venue free of charge.
The church teams might be tempted to ask for divine guidance against the street combinations which should be more equipped with the experience playing this type of the sport on the streets all of their lives, especially since $25,000, 15,000 and $10,000 along with trophies are up for grabs for the second, third and fourth placed winners respectively.
According to Alistair Griffith, the Youth President of the South Quake Ministries which is located on Cane View Avenue in South Ruimveldt, a street football tournament was started three years ago but this year as a part of Guyana’s Jubilee a bigger event was planned and will be played in the Sports Hall.
“We wanted this to be bigger than the last two years and help to forge a more untied Guyana through sports. Don’t underestimate the Church teams which will give the street teams a run for their money.”
His unrelated name-sake Carlos Griffith, the founder of C&A Unique added that females will not be left out since a ‘kick to goal’ competition has been organsied for the girls.
Teams from South and North Ruimveldt, Grove and Cane Grove among others are slated to compete in the action which is expected to conclude around 21:00hrs with the presentation.
Banks DIH, NSC, GFF, Giftland Office Max, the Guyana Government and Trophy Stall are among those who have pledged support for the tournament.
Also present at yesterday’s launching, held opposite the Tucville School, were Gospel Artist Ryan Patterson AKA DC Speaker, who performed pieces of his songs, and Lawrence December who represented the Tucville street team.
There is no cost to register and teams desirous of doing so can contact Alistair Griffith on telephone number 677-5116.
