Dear Editor,
Over the last few weeks, there has been quite a brouhaha about Minister Harmon’s trip to the People’s Republic of China and his association with some Chinese companies and investors here, and quite understandably so. But no one is making a comparable fuss about the frequency, purpose, and timing of the numerous and recurrent trips being made to the same People’s Republic of China by the City Engineer of Georgetown, Mr. Colvern Venture.
The citizens of Georgetown ought to be told why the City Engineer has to travel to the PRC so often, how these visits will benefit the capital, and why so suddenly. Now that there is a new Council in place, and with the calls for accountability and transparency being constantly made, then the public should be informed of the trips both overseas and overland being undertaken by the Mayor, Councillors and Officers of the Georgetown and other municipalities.
