Kevin Sinclair is Captain
The junior selection panel of the Berbice Cricket Board led by Leslie Solomon has named a strong team to participate in the upcoming GCB Inter County Under-17 tournament.
The team was selected after two trial matches recently held at the Albion Sports Complex. Outstanding performances were recorded by Javed Karim, Alex Algoo and Kevin Sinclair. Consideration was also given to performances in the Memorex Under-17 Inter Club and the A. Ally and Sons Secondary School Cricket Competitions.
In the first trial match, Steve Deonarain side won the toss, batted first and made 190 for 9 off their allotted 50 overs. Former Berbice Under-15 opener Alex Algoo top scored with 42. He got support from Berbice youth players Junior Sinclair and Garfield Benjamin with 36 each. Bowling for Kevin Sinclair side, Afseer Hussain took 3 for 18 and Brandon Stewart 2 for 26.
In reply, Sinclair 11 raced to 192 for 7 to win by three wickets with former Berbice Under-15 opener Javed Karim scoring a classy unbeaten 100 with 10 fours. Kevlon Anderson supported with 44 not out. Former national Under-15 player Kelvin Umroa took 3 for 20.
In the second game, Deonarain 11 got the better of Kevin Sinclair 11 by 5 wickets with 6 overs to spare. Sinclair 11 won the toss, batted first and made 167 all out in 49.3 overs.
The skipper top scored with 50 no and Syaad Peerbaksh 34. Afseer Hussain took 2 for 22. Deonarain 11 replied with 168 for 5 off 44 overs with Algoo scoring 74 no and Chanderdat Veerasammy 34. Skipper Sinclair took 2 for 21.
