Action in the game between Ithaca Hardliners (in purple) and Rose Hall Jammers in action.
Surprise package Ithaca Hardliners continued their fairy tale run in Anamayah Memorial first division Basketball competition when they defeated Rose Hall Town Jammers 54-46 in their semi final clash which was played last Sunday at the Rose Hall Town Basketball Court.
From the first whistle the Hardliners showed that they were prepared for a tough battle. Both teams started cautiously, with the Hardliners moving to a 9-5 lead. The second segment was much the same with the Hardliners maintaining a four point’s lead to end the half with the score reading 19-15.
The visiting Hardliners upped the tempo a notch in the third quarter, but the Jammers kept fighting back as more points were scored as the teams ended the third stanza with the Hardliners now leading by 6 points at 36-30.
The Jammers came out battling in the final segment as they tried to make use of home court advantage in a desperate effort to get back into the game. But it was evident that their systems were already nullified by the Hardliners who netted a further 18 points to the home side’s 16, for the 54-46 win.
For the Ithaca Hardliners Kester Edwards poured in 16 points with support coming from Elroy Amsterdam 10 and Raymond Sinclair nine.
The main contributors for the Rose Hall Town Jammers were Yasim Tashir with a game-high 20 points while Ezekiel Simon had 11 and Nickosie Marks 6.
Ithaca Hardliners will now await the winners of the second semi-final between Fyrish Black Sharks and New Amsterdam Warriors which is scheduled for the Black Sharks court.
The winning and runner-up teams will receive cash incentives and trophies while top individual performers will also be awarded.
