Dear Editor,
It is unfortunate that the PM became the victim of the radio licences issue. In my opinion, Dr Hinds’ rage is common to many of us who hoped that this government would make a change, but there are too many short comings. Rage and anger, sometimes blind us to reality. This government is giving ammunition to the PPP.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo did not say not to revoke the licences given to Jagdeo’s friends and relatives, but he gave his personal opinion that additional licences should be given. This is not the opinion or a decision from cabinet. In addition, the PM is a lawyer, and maybe in the interim, the licences cannot be legally retrieved/revoked without a cost.
I know this PM personally for many years and he faced many harsh and challenging circumstances, but his intension is honest. I am certain, if this PM can jail Jagdeo tomorrow, by due process, he would not forgive him. We (Joe Persuad, then Ramjattan, then Nagamootoo ) are not “Yes men” this is why we were technically kicked by Jagdeo, not the PPP as such. There are many Yes men, because of economical circumstances.
The coalition in opposition, complained that the PPP is misusing the government media, and rightly so. This government should now privatize the government media. No democratic government owns media. Or this government wants to repeat all the acts of the PPP? Like awarding contract to the allegedly corrupt airport contractor etc , no tender for the speciality hospital, retain the Jagdeoites in the Ministry of Finance and other departments, people not employed on the basis of qualification and experience to produce good results but to win the voters.
The PPP did cosmetic changes to the PNC constitution; is this what this government will do? City Hall spends $2m monthly during PPP and now $3M etc. To the APNU /AFC, I say people are bitter with some of the things you are doing. You are on stage, everyone is watching you. They do not see the crowd. Life is like a sheet of untrodden snow so be careful how you step on it; for every step will show.
Joe Persuad (Canada)
