Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) launched the 11th Edition of the National
School Basketball Festival (NSBF) Regional Conferences yesterday. The Conferences is set to bounce off April 15 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Director of YBG, Chris Bowman said that his organisation is committed to the development of youth basketball in Guyana. “11 years is only possible through dedication and hard work. We are committed to student and athlete development but we could not do it without our sponsors and supporters,” Bowman indicated.
He believes that Guyana will be able to field strong teams at the Under-16 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships, which is slated for Guyana in July. Sponsors Digicel, Edward B. Beharry and Company Ltd., National Sports Commission (NSC) along with Banks DIH, pledged their continued support for the event.
Banks DIH Communications Officer, Troy Peters highlighted that YBG’s commitment resulted in the “growth” of youth basketball. Marketing Director of Beharry Group of Companies, Anjali Beharry-Strand said that “Sports is the way to go, it helps the kids to grow… more money needs to be plugged into sport because the youths are the future”.
Digicel’s Louanna Abrams said that the telecommunication giants will remain committed to the event while Director of Sport, Christopher Jones commended YBG for their longevity while asking the organisation use the “50 Shades of Games” tag in accordance with the NSC’s celebration of Guyana’s Golden Jubilee.
Schools from all over Guyana will compete in the event, which will conclude in July with the NSBF Championships that will name the national schools champions.
