Dear Editor,
While quoting Martin Carter’s poetry “in mourning the victims of the Camp Street incident”, let us not forget that Martin once worked there (in the 1950s) in the office and probably saw ”things that bothered him”. Hence the description of “this city with a prison for a heart.” I have always thought of the Camp Street prison as a place with the greatest concentration of talent going to waste that I have ever seen, and wondered why not put some of that talent to use? Many, many years later, living abroad, when I read that prisoners in other countries made meal trays and other items for their national airlines, I thought what a good idea. At least, that could be one way of paying for their keep. Geralda Dennison
