In light of a controversy that erupted during the staging of this year’s Milo Under-20 Schools Football Competition pertaining to a few institutions eligibility, Organisers Petra Organisation recently released a letter to clear up any misconceptions that would have arised following the withdrawal of two institutions that were involved at the commencement of the tournament.
The two institutions are Morgan’s Learning Centre and Sir Leon Lessons who both agreed to withdraw from participation so as not to affect the smooth flow of the event.
Here below is the release from the Petra Organisation:
The Petra Organization is mindful of the invaluable support received to date from our sponsors, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Health, School, teachers, players or staff and supporters at this stage of the 4th annual Milo U-20 Secondary School Football Tournament.
We are very pleased also to have been using this tournament this year to highlight the scourge associated with suicide in our society and to highlight positive messages read by the captains of each participating teams before each match.
The Petra Organization in the very best interest of the tournament’s integrity and the preservation of our philosophy, strive to foster the attendance of school by youngsters who are preparing for exams. To this end, we were regrettably forced to insert an addendum to the tournament’s Rules, which ensured that participating players attend schools / lessons in Georgetown and are also serious about writing exams if they are eligible to do so by age. With the addendum (Rule # 22 & 23) two schools / lessons unfortunately opted to discontinue their participation.
It is our hope that going forward with the tournament in the future, managers, coaches, and players would understand that our Organization is not only concerned with a well executed tournament, but our concern goes beyond the field of play.
