Head Coach of the Lady Jags Mark Rodrigues has expressed sincere gratitude to all who have contributed towards the success of the team thus far in their journey towards qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport from the team’s hotel, The Hilton in Post Oak, Houston, Texas yesterday afternoon, where the Guyanese are preparing for action in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, Rodrigues expressed gratitude to a number of persons and especially the dedicated core of players who have been with the programme from its inception, January, 2009.
He extended thanks to AVIS Rental Services here in Texas for providing two 12-seater vans at greatly reduced rental. Thanks were also extended to the Tampa Bay Guyanese Cultural Organisation for their continued support.
The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) came in for high praise for their timely contribution on Saturday last to the team while the team’s Strength and Conditioning Coach who is also doubling as the Nutritionist and Physio, David Lawrence also came in for high praise.
Coach Rodrigues informed that Lawrence is one of the best in his trade in the USA and agreed when approached to offer his services to the team free of cost. Lawrence is also the President and Head Strength Coach for his Gym that
was recently opened in Miami.
Rodrigues said he was very pleased with the initiative shown by Ashley Rodrigues and the senior players in coordinating and purchasing a complete travel kit for the team as they maintain the professional look on and off the field of play.
“These girls have really shown a high level of commitment in every department. They saw a need and collectively dealt with it without asking a question and that myself and the Technical team applaud.”
They have and continue to set high standards and we are proud of them. Coach Rodrigues himself has stepped up and provided the team with backpacks, training gear, tee shirts and warm up jackets for the matches here in Texas.
The Guyana Football Federation was complimented for their efforts in making it possible for the team to compete and Rodrigues said that he is looking forward to the matches which will commence tomorrow when Guyana match skills with Canada at the BBVA Campus Stadium in the feature match of a double header, Trinidad and Tobago face off with Guatemala in the opener.
