Seeking to join Ann’s Grove, Beavers, Uitvlugt, Victoria Kings and last evening’s
winners from the matches that involved Soesdyke Falcons v Pouderoyen and Golden Grove v Grove Hi Tech will be the winners of the final round of 16 matches set for today at the Den Amstel ground, West Coast Demerara.
Home team Den Amstel will put everything on the line when they engage East Bank’s Agricola Red Triangle in the main attraction with another East Bank side, Kuru Kururu Warriors taking on East Demerara’s Mahaica Determinators in the night’s opening showdown.
Den Amstel has lost some ground as the leading side on the West Side but this clash and tournament offers them the perfect opportunity to chart a path back to a #1 ranking in the WDFA but they will first have to get past EBFA’s #2 side, Agricola Red Triangle.
Carrying the charge for the home side apart from the hundreds of fans that are expected to fill the stand and seats at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground are Dwayne Wilson, Travis Hamilton, Colin Benn, Wycliffe Simon, Ryan Hunte, Andre Hector, Jamal Perreira, Akimbo Henry, Gavin Graham, Oret Stephenson, Paul and Joey Payne and Kevon Warde.
Agricola Red Triangle will be no pushovers and have a solid team on paper led by their number one marksman Gordon Grant. Many of the villagers from Agricola are expected to make the journey to Den Amstel to support their team in their quest to, first take care of the home team as they make a charge for the top prize of 1.5 million dollars compliments of Ansa McAl under the Stag Beer brand.
Supporting Grant will be Winston and Akeem Rawlins, Jermaine Frank, Travis Farina, Travis Welch, Collis Samuels and Egbert Nedd.
The penultimate round-of-16 match features Mahaica Determinators against Kuru Kururu Warriors. The Warriors, based on the Linden Soesdyke Highway will be aiming to create a huge impression and like Agricola, will be working to make it past this round, unlike last year.
The Warriors will pin their efforts on the mixture of experienced and young players to aid in their success tonight.
Deon Denhart, Cordell Johnson, Christopher Fraser, Christopher Alleyne, Joseph James, Ryan Scott, Nicholas Holder, Franklyn Medouze, Rakesh Haimnauth, Allen O’Selmo, Joshua O’Selmo, Mario DeFreitas, Michael Carrington and Ethan Sparman among others will take on that responsibility.
Mahaica’s challenge will be spearheaded by the likes of Terry Caesar, Shameer Zaneer, Demon Charles, Nickel Benjamin, Curtley Adams, Andrew Williams, Kirk Roberts, Delroy Pereira and Quincy Holder.
Quarter final action will kick off at the Farm Community Centre ground this Friday, Christmas Day and the Victoria ground on Boxing Day.
