Live illegally wired lines threaten lives of school children
Dear Editor,
I am a driver of a 42 Route bus on the E.B.D and I wish to let the public and those in authority know about the danger that chauffeurs and vehicles, pedestrians, school children, the elderly and farmers and even animals face daily by the action of some of the resident of Friendship squatting area East Bank Demerara
Five electricity wires could be seen everywhere on the street and in the canal under the bridge entrance to the koker on the school fence. There is about 15 illegal connections just over the school guard’s hut on top the G.P.L post and the guards open the gate and allow these people to connect in the night because these people say and boast that permission was given by an female AFC big-wig during the election campaign to connect wherever there is a post. Top officials of the Education Ministry are aware of the live current that runs there and the danger to these school children and turn a blind eye. And there is more on the street lamp post at the entrance of the koker, making it dangerous to open the door because live wires run all over the dams leading to the squatting area.
It is only a matter of time before a vehicle burst into flames and life lost on top of the road bridge. One guy is now crippled after being shocked with live current in the canal as there is numerous live and loose wires that run across the canal and nobody can stop these people because they boast that the AFC official gave them clearance. The bully in the squatting area is one Jennifer who has many connections and sell power to different home at 2 and 3 thousand dollars per week. GPL employee turns a blind eye and some could be seen climbing lantern posts in the night making connections; some will bring the GPL wire and sell to these people.
These wire “cove” is nothing to hide as one looks on top the bridge one could see wire left right and centre for these people. Sir please publish this letter in your daily newspaper and let the authority do something about this danger that the travelling public, vehicles- animals etc face daily. Please don’t print name for fear of revenge
