Letter to the Sports Editor…A point on this upcoming GFF Election
Dear Sports Editor,
On Sat 14th November 2015, the Guyana Football Federation will be entering a new phase in the football life of the Federation. After Christopher Matthias almost ruined football in Guyana with his dictatorial and autocratic style of leadership, FIFA came and rescued us from total destruction by installing a Normalisation Committee.
On that date 22 affiliates will be going to the polls in one of the most important and historic elections in the life of the Federation.
Two groups have entered the race: Team Integrity and Team Unity both are headed by successful individuals in their specific field of expertise. Their slates consist of individuals, who are also successful in their own profession.
But I would like to comment on one Team, Team Integrity. The Presidential Candidate, Mr. Wayne Forde was in Linden and he had a discussion with the General Council of the UDFA. He reminded me of Mr. Christopher Matthias; his speech was riddled with promises, innuendos and flowery rhetoric with little substance and foundation.
Mr. Editor, according to information coming out of Georgetown football circles, if Mr. Forde wins the presidency he will hire Mr. Matthias as his General Secretary. How ludicrous can that be? During Mr. Matthias failed attempt to get back into football power, Mr. Forde in collaboration with Mr. Matthias held a meeting with the GFA Clubs at the GFA office and they were trying to persuade the clubs to vote for Mr. Matthias but persons has had enough of him, he was disgraced and humiliated by losing 7 votes to 2 at the GFA Elections. Mr. Forde is on a trail preaching Integrity, by supporting someone like Mr. Matthias, how veracious is that. Can Mr Matthias integrity stand up to interrogation?
Mr. Forde is a replica of Mr. Matthias, same demeanor, same posture and same characteristic. After what Mr. Matthias did to football in Linden by suspending the entire UDFA Executives wrongfully and putting in his cronies to run football in Linden, it would be most detrimental for us Lindeners to support someone who has an agenda to reinstate Mr. Matthias into the hierarchy of football administration. Can you imagine Mr. Forde and Mr. Mathias teaming up? That is a recipe for chaos and disaster, with a FIFA Ban or suspension looming in the future.
