For the eight consecutive year, the Guyana Beverage Inc. (GBI), through its Busta brand has maintained sponsorship of the Enterprise Busta Sports Club (EBSC) T20 competition which is known as the Busta Festival.

Yesterday at its Diamond, East Bank Demerara main office, Guyana Beverage Inc. CEO Robert Selman handed over a cheque to EBSC Secretary, Ms. Kavita Yadram, cementing the company’s commitment to the tournament.
Over a dozen teams are expected to take on each other for the lucrative prizes that will be on offer, last year’s competition attracted 16 teams. Selman, in remarks noted that his company is committed to the development of youths by offering them an alternative to a life on the streets and that’s why they choose to support sports.
Selman also noted that it is the company’s way of giving back to Guyana and the people who have been very supportive of the Busta brand among other products they produce through their parent company, S.M Jaleel of Trinidad and Tobago.
Yadram, in giving a brief on the tournament and GBI’s involvement through the Busta brand said that it has been a success story which has resulted in their club dominating East Coast cricket.
She noted that they have produced a number of national players including current West Indies player Rajendra Chandrika who is on tour with the West Indies in Sri Lanka. Among other players including Yadram herself who have donned national colours are Zaheer Mohamed, Kamesh Yadram, Bashkar Yadram, Predesh Balkissoon, Raja Amit Pooran, Imtaz Omar and Ms. Amanda Persaud.
The club currently has a roster of 65 cricketers, fielding six teams from Under15 to 19 as well as an A and B Teams and an Over-40.
Secretary Yadram expressed gratitude on behalf of the club to Mr. Selman and GBI for their unwavering support which no doubt has aided the club to be the best on the East Coast. She also said that the club is very gratified that the company has expressed faith and trust in them to continue to carry the Busta brand which they will continue to represent with dignity and respect.
The EBSC Busta Festival will be launched on Sundy October 25 at the Enterprise Community Centre ground where the fixtures will also be drawn at this fundraising event.
Among the clubs expected to participate are EBSC A and B, Ogle, Better Hope, Mon Repo, Fairfield, Stathaven, Unity, Helena, Enmore, Golden Grove, Bravados and Buxton.
