The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has agreed on fines for Pacesetters forward, Jermaine Hamilton and Colts guard, Dave Causway following a post-game fight last Wednesday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Contacted last night, President of the GABF, Nigel Hinds told Kaieteur Sport that “the matter at the federation level has been resolved.” Hinds confirmed that fines had been set for both players following a disciplinary hearing yesterday.
The GABF Head was mum on a full disclosure pertaining to the matter, stating, however, that a press release will be issued to the media soon. Asked if Causway will be reinstated to play when his team takes on Half Mile Bulls in the GABF Forbes Burnham Memorial Final Saturday night in Linden, Hinds answered in the affirmative. In response to recommendations from the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) for sanctions for both players, the national federation had suspended them until further notice. In addition, the GABF had originally set yesterday’s meeting for Sunday.
“Following that meeting, the GABF will make a definitive pronouncement on the issue, based on the information and evidence related to the altercation,” it had indicated in its response to GABA detailing its prescription for disciplinary action.
The incident in question occurred after the Colts vs Victory Valley Royals semi-final game of the GABF Forbes Burnham Memorial Championships, where Causway apparently threw a ball in Hamilton’s direction and was physically accosted afterward.
“Based on Mr. Douglas eye-witness account in addition to other bystanders that collaborated the exact happening, the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association would like to recommend the following in keeping with FIBA (International Basketball Federation) fair play and the player code of conduct,” GABA had stated in its letter to the federation.
“Based on Mr. Douglas account ‘Mr. Causway, following the conclusion of the game between Colts and Royals threw a basketball in the direction of Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Causway then walked away and upon walking away Mr. Hamilton ran up to Mr. Causway and dealt him a direct blow to his head,” the Georgetown association submitted. However, the federation said that the matter will be put into perspective when it issues the press release on the subject.
The suspension of Causway had cast a dark cloud over the participation of Colts without its lead guard in Saturday’s final.
