Mobile Wizards has agreed to sponsor a 10/10 Softball Cricket tournament on the West Demerara for males and females starting early September.
The company which deals with cell phones will have the right to display and inform the public on the company’s works at any ground where the games are being played.
The Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the West Demerara area board has forged this sponsorship in an effort to create interest in the game in the area.
Teams will play with the same 10/10 rules as per the GSL but there is an addition as persons making up a team will have to be a resident of the area before they are allowed to participate, teams found wanting will be disqualified from the tournament.
Additionally there will be a culture show as spectators will be given an opportunity to showcase their dance skills for two minutes each to local music chosen by Djs randomly.
The entrance fee for the tournament is 5,000 dollars and the prizes up for grab are as follows: Winners (males and females) – $20,000 plus trophy, runners up – $10,000 plus trophy. Other incentives will be given to MVP tournament, man/woman of the finals, best dressed team and most disciplined team.

A release informed that the GSL would like to inform the public that as the national body, only tournaments organised through this body will be able to produce national champions and only the tournaments that are administrated by the approved area representatives will be sanctioned and it has to be a collaborative effort.
The list of approved representatives is as follows: Linden- Mortimer denny; Essequibo- Ramnarine Raghubar/Chintamanie/Harvey. Gobin/Asif Ahamad; Upper East Coast – Herman Persaud; Lower East Coast – Mark Persaud; West Coast – Ravenna Ramgobin; East Bank – Shafeek Mohamed; Lance Adams – Georgetown; Abina Shultz-Corentyne females; James Hart – Upper Corentyne, Omeshwar Sirikishun /Teena Pooran – Lower Corentyne; Pinkey Arthur – New Amersterdam/ Canjie, Megan Thomas – Lethem, Latoya Sookram – Pomeroon.
The above mentioned persons are asked to seek clarification when any approach is made. Presently only the 10/ten organizations in the various areas are under the GSL.
