Horseracing in Guyana in need of some semblance of order

meets set for five consecutive weeks’ The Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) seems to have its work cut out in mediating in any dispute. Whilst some persons are saying that it is not a problem, others are seeing it as a serious issue, since there are not enough horses and sponsors. Whilst others are saying that it goes against the arrangement made earlier that Tracks should go back to their original dates and also there should be at least two weeks in between races expect to extraneous circumstances.
In the meanwhile, a number of concerns have also been raised with respect to the said articles. Some are wondering where the confusion is coming from – (influx of dates).
Prominent Horse owner, trainer and breeder Colin Elcock is of the belief that the matters could easily be sorted out if people could follow the rules and systems put in place to deal with such circumstances.
According to Elcock the decision was simple; if the clubs go back to their original dates then there should not be much problems. In the event that there is a problem then the clubs/promoter should sit and sort it out which should not be too difficult. In the event that an issue still lingers then the GHRA as a referee will have to step in a sort the matter out.
As such the call is being made that since a decision was made at a meeting and a resolution was passed giving the GHRA the authority it is only timely that the GHRA say something.
According to Elcock races cannot be run without horses and sponsorship, plus the fans should have spending power. So organizers should not just organize race meets without taking a number of things into consideration. Otherwise it is useless to organized race meets. A number of dates and race meets are been strung into the domain like the wild west and fans are saying that it doesn’t make much sense.
According to Elcock the traditional dates in July were being held by The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) and the Norman Singh Club at NO 6. The three clubs that had traditional dates during August were Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC), Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) and the Rising Sun Turf Club. That arrangement should be maintained as previously agreed.
However, according to Elcock, notwithstanding all that was mentioned above the situation could be sorted out if people become a little more sensitive and stop being bullish and try to negotiate, because the bullies in a number of instances do not always win.
