Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) were crowned champions of the Georgetown
Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-over competition after defeating Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 159 runs in the final yesterday at Malteenoes Sports Club.
Batting first after winning the toss, GCC posted a challenging 267-6 off their allotted 40 overs. Openers Gavin Singh and Martin Pestano Belle gave their team solid start with a stand of 93. Singh hit five fours before he was bowled by Clyde Hoyte for 36 before Belle added a further 71 for the second wicket with Ellon Fernandes. TSC eventually folded for 108 in 30.2 overs. Mohamed and Lord led the bowling with 3-13 apiece, while Deonarine Seegobin had 3-24. Fernandes copped the best batsman award, Lord the best bowler prize and Charwayne McPherson the best fielder accolade.
The bowlers with the best figure and most wickets in the preliminary stages were Antonell Atwell (7-35) and Carlton Jacques (17). The batsman with the most runs and highest score were McPherson (317) and Dwayne Peters (182) in that order. McPherson was the MVP in zone A and Richard Latiff in zone B.
