The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Friday last launched a softball cricket tournament for four primary schools on the lower
Corentyne Coast as part of its Silver Jubilee Celebrations.
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) and RHTY&SC tournament would bowl off in early February and would be one of the two hundred programmes/activities planned this year in observance of this historic milsetone.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster informed that the tournament would be contested by the Belvedere Primary, Rose Hall Primary, Port Mourant Primary and Tain Primary schools. The 10-overs per side / one day tournament would be played at the Area ‘H’ ground on Thursday February 12.
Belvedere Primary would play Rose Hall Primary in the opening match at 09:30hrs while Port Mourant Primary and Tain primary would meet at 11:00hrs. The third place match would be played at 12:30hrs while the grand final would start at 14:00hrs.
The winning team, runners-up and outstanding players would receive trophies and medals. The long standing club Secretary/CEO revealed that the RHTY&SC would use the tournament to identify promising players for its junior development programmes that would be conducted by Coach Delbert Hicks.
The club would also promote the ‘Say Yes to Education and Say No to Drugs and Suicide’ message to the players. Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, especially its CEO Mr. R.K. GT&T has been a sponsor of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation since 1994 and Foster hailed the long term partnership as highly productive and successful. GT&T Public Relations Officer Allison Parker stated that her company was pleased to support the club which has continuously demonstrated a high level of commitment to the development of youth and sports in Guyana.
Parker also congratulated the club on achieving its Silver Jubilee while expressing confidence that tournament would be a great success.
