Forty-three-year-old Godfrey Marks, of Lower Kara Kara squatting area, Linden, is in the Georgetown Public Hospital, reportedly in a critical condition, as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained to the left shoulder, during a home invasion by armed bandits, early yesterday morning.
Marks, a chain saw operator, was initially rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex by relatives, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
At present, his son, Godfrey (Jnr), is hospitalized in Linden.
The senior Marks was shot by one of four bandits who barged into his home demanding cash and jewellery.
His wife Suzanne Marks, said, “Was early morning when we hear the dogs barking, so me husband decide to go and check.
But as soon as he enter the verandah a shot fire and hit he, it hit he in he left shoulder, and I run out to see what going on and the man gun butt me and bust me head”.
Mrs. Marks said that the bandit, who was dressed in dark clothing and wore a mask, also beat her son who is now hospitalized. She pointed out that the child is nine years old, and is a student of the Christianburg Primary School.
The traumatized woman said that neighbours and relatives, upon hearing the commotion, ventured out of their homes, whereupon the bandits fled empty handed.
When this newspaper visited the family, Mrs. Marks said that she had just washed away the blood.
“Was plenty, plenty blood and I just wash it down,” she pointed out.
Neighbours who stood around in small groups talking expressed shock that bandits would choose to enter the community which is surrounded by thick bushes, and which would be hard for strangers to ‘navigate’.
After the bandits fled, a boat was observed on the beach in close proximity to the Marks’ ‘landing’, and it was later learnt that a member of the community had lost his boat.
The bandits had apparently fled through the bushes, after the brazen attack, sources claimed.
Suzanne Marks says that she is convinced that the attack on her family was perpetrated by persons who know them well.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
