Top talent on show in Grand Coastal/ Lusignan Golf Club golf showdown
The nation’s top golfers will be engaged in keen competition when officials of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC)
in association with the Grand Coastal Hotel and Restaurant, Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara, present a day of competitive action at the LGC tomorrow morning.
The game will be played on the open medal play, rather than the flights system and trophies will be presented to the first three players with the best net position in the male category while the female with the best net will also receive a prize.
There will also be prizes for the player with the overall best gross and nearest to the pin. Tee-off time is 12:15hrs. The organizers have given a brief of the intricacies of the sport in order that the uninitiated would be better informed. They explained that a handicap is the number of points the player gets as an advantage, and is subtracted from the player’s gross or total to determine his or her net score. This is the value used to evaluate how winners are placed.
For example, should two players attain a handicap 10 and 20 and both score a gross of 80 strokes, then the 10 handicap player is given a net of 70 strokes, while the 20 handicap player is given a net of 60 strokes.
Another scenario presumes that two players with handicaps of 5 and 25 respectively each score a gross of 90. The former player accrues a net of 85, while the latter earns a net of 65. Further, the lower handicap is attributed to the more skillful player so that the straight handicap play is considered a disadvantage to better players. It is for this reason that the players are grouped in Flights.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Grand Coastal, Ramesh Taykoo said that his company is pleased to be associated with the tournament. He pointed out that his company has been rendering similar support for over 10 years and is pleased with the returns.
He also said that he is optimistic that the weather will be good to the organizer. Representatives of the sponsors will be at the tournament venue for the presentation ceremony at the end of the day’s play.
