but according to director Kashif Muhammad they are awaiting on the installation of the Normalisation Committee to discuss the programme for the tournament. Muhammad informed Kaieteur Sport yesterday that a letter was sent to Christopher Matthias during his tenure as president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) seeking permission to run the competition.
He added that they got a response informing them of the requirements, but since he was sacked as the head of the governing body of the game in the country, they are now awaiting the installation of the Normalisation Committee for a meeting so that they move forward. The Director stated that they will be pleased if they can meet at the earliest opportunity since time is not on their side.
The tournament will be played at the senior club level and is expected to kick start on November 14. Muhammad informed that they are currently in talks with their major sponsors. The competition will take a different format with 69 teams taking part in the initial stages which will be contested on a knock out basis in the various associations with 20 teams going through to the finals. Sixteen teams from Georgetown, thirteen from Linden, five from Bartica, twelve from West Demerara, eight from East Bank, seven from Berbice and eight from East Coast will battle in the preliminary stages.
The finals will see eight teams from the city, two from Linden (including a standby), and one from Bartica, two each from West Demerara, East Bank and Berbice and three from East Coast battling for supremacy.
Muhammad pointed out that they are trying to revitalize the game locally and prize money will be given by the organizers to the winners of the various associations while the proceeds from the preliminary stages will go towards the associations. After the conclusion of the preliminaries on November 30, the tournament will break for two weeks before the finals commence on December 14 and conclude on January 1, 2015.
Muhammad pointed out that their school tournament is set to continue in 2015.
