A man accused of assaulting a woman in an attempt to rob her on one of the busiest city streets, was yesterday remanded to prison.
Royden Browne who appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court is alleged to have attacked Natasha Outar on Wednesday (October 15) on Regent Street in an attempt to rob her of her $35,000 BlackBerry Curve cellular phone.
Inspector Michael Grant, who prosecuted, explained that the woman was walking along Regent Street when Browne pounced on her. He said that the accused cuffed the woman several times and attempted to take her cellular phone.
Browne denied the allegations, however, and claimed that she “jammed him” and he chucked her in retaliation. He said that they had an “accident.”
Inspector Grant objected to bail citing the seriousness of the offence. He said that Browne had previously been charged before the courts.
Browne was denied bail and the case is set to be called again on November 3.
