Despite promises of a short reopening, the doors of the four Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)
The Vlissengen Road outlets yesterday
and lone Pizza Hut outlets in the city remain closed.
The fast-food outlets, which employ about 250 persons, had originally been scheduled to open on August 14 but to date the doors remain closed for business. The reopening date is still uncertain.
The branches found closed yesterday were KFC on Water Street, Stabroek; Vlissengen Road; Mandela Avenue; Bagotstown, as well as Pizza Hut on Vlissengen Road.
Pasted on the door of every one of the outlets are signs which state: “”Please be advised that KFC/Pizza Hut will be closed for maintenance and upgrade. Customers will be advised of our reopening. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we do look forward to continuing to serve you.”
It was reported that Managing Director of the local KFC franchise, Deo Singh, had confirmed that the outlets had been temporarily closed for maintenance and upgrade, and will be reopened as soon as works are completed.
When Kaieteur News visited the outlets yesterday, market vendors as well patrons confirmed that works had already commenced. Carpenters and construction workers had been seen working at the sites.
Vendors complained, however, that the Stabroek Market outlet continues to be infested by rodents.
“They need to do something more than just change up the building, it need a complete overhaul; if you see rat that does deh inside there. At nights you see them by the hundreds,” one vendor lamented.
