He holds a certificate in television production after completing the requisite studies at the
University of Guyana Centre for Communication Studies in collaboration with the Ohio University, Higher Education for Development and American Council on Education. Now, armed with those academic attributes and an inextinguishable passion for health issues, fitness and sports development, Max Massiah has ventured into television production and his weekly one hour programme on NCN, Maximum Sports’ is creating waves.
The programme commences at 21:00 hrs Fridays and is informative, inspiring and entertaining with a focus on disciplines that focus on combat and strength the likes of boxing, martial arts, judo, kickboxing, power lifting, bodybuilding and rugby.
The show commenced last May month end and the producer is adamant that it is a resounding success. “The show is gathering rapid momentum in terms of viewership interest and the anticipation level is high,” opined Mr. Massiah as he reflected on the impact since the show’s inauguration. He said that though he has not yet engaged in a scientific survey, a random survey coupled with feedback from the various federations, schools, gyms and clubs seems to suggest that the programme is enjoying healthy viewership. “The overwhelmingly positive response of the general public comprising of all ages and ethnicities is a clear indication of a refreshingly distinctive quality of edutainment,” he opines.
Maybe the most authentic indication of the viability of the program came when the producer paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony, and the latter individual not only endorsed the program but donated a monetary contribution to aid in the progression of the programme.
To date, the show has witnessed a plethora of personalities from across the sports divide including heads of sports federations, gyms, schools and clubs. Several popular sports personalities were also guests on the program including Bodybuilder and Miss Physique Champion, Nadina Taharally, Mr. Universe, Hugh Ross, International Karate Master, Frank Woon-a-Tai, world rated fighter, Clive Atwell and a host of others.
Mr. Massiah said that the views of these important people, whether administrator or athlete, is important as they help the uninitiated to truly understand the challenges the key sports players experience in addressing their respective tasks.
The producer is also indebted to the corporate community which he terms ‘the oxygen of the show.’ Some of those firms are Fitness Express, Marics & Co. Ltd, West Indian Sports Complex, The Guyana Karate College, Interline Fitness Gym, Terminex Pest Control, Jermin’s Enterprise, Comfort Sleep, and Ganesh Parts & General Stores.
Other corporate input originated from Caricom Group of Companies which consists of Caricom General Insurance, Caricom Cement Co., and Caricom Bottling Co.
