Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker, on Wednesday, handed over 10 brush cutters to the ten Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) at the Regional Democratic Office in Region Three.

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development along with members of the RDC and NDCs, at the handing over.
The brush-cutters were procured from the Ministry’s annual grant to the NDCs, to assist the Councils in executing their functions.
Region Three’s Vice-Chairman, Azzam Pasha Mohamed said that the brush cutters will assist the NDCs in delivering better service within their communities. He added that the equipment will ensure communities in the Region are kept at a standard where residents can be comfortable.
In his address, Minister Whittaker told the Councilors and others present, that the brush cutters should be used to clean both the inner and outer parameters of the Region’s school and hospital compounds and to remove vegetation from road shoulders and all public spaces within each locality.
Minister Whittaker called for collaboration between the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs). The Minister said that “it is expected that the brush cutters will be used in the most efficient way and be cared for so they can provide years of service to the Councils.” He stressed that “the brush cutters are for the communities and should be used there and not for personal gains”.
In response to the Minister’s call for collaboration, the Regional Executive Officer of Region Three, Donald Gajraj, , stated that the Region will supply fuel for the bush cutters but the Council must submit a timely plan of activities to the administration.
Receiving brush cutters were Wakenaam, Leguan, Hydronie/Good Hope, Greenwich Park/Vergenoegen, Stewartville/Cornelia Ida, Hague/Blankenburg, La Jalousie/Nouvelle Flanders, Best/Klien Pouderoyen, Malgre Tout/Meer Zorgen And Toevlugt/ Patentia Neighbourhood Democratic Councils.
Each brush cutter is valued at $114, 935.
Last week, the Regional Democratic Council also received a fogging machine from the Ministry to assist the Region in its fogging exercise, in an effort to minimise vector-borne diseases, in light of the Chikungunya virus outbreak.
