A 22-year-old Albouystown labourer who chucked his teenage sister during a family conflict was brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face an assault charge.
Devon Allicock appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday and was charged for assaulting his 18-year-old sister on Tuesday last, at their James Street, Albouystown home.
He pleaded guilty and asked to offer an explanation.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones told the court that on that day, the defendant’s sister was in her room sleeping. He said that about 13:30 hours the teenager was awakened by a loud noise. She went to see what was happening when she saw her niece crying.
The Prosecution explained that the siblings both intervened in the matter and the accused chucked the victim. The matter was reported and Allicock was charged for assault.
Addressing the court, the teenaged victim stated that her brother was in the habit of assaulting her. She explained that she would normally complain to her parents and they would talk to them.
Corporal Jones told the court that he had no prior charges or convictions.
Allicock was charged too for resisting arrest and assaulting Constable Ian Archer, who according to the charge, was acting in the execution of his duties.
The accused, however, refuted those claims and was granted $2,000 bail each. Those matters will be called again before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on July 25.
Responding to the charge for him assaulting his sister, he was fined $5,000, failing to pay which will result in seven days imprisonment. He was also put on a bond to keep the peace, failing to comply will result in four months imprisonment.
