The police have launched a search for two juvenile inmates who escaped from their custody yesterday morning while waiting to be taken to court.
The revelation was made yesterday morning at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court when the cases involving the teens were called before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The Prosecution, who did not give details of the escape, reported that the two had escaped from the Alberttown Police Station. They were scheduled to appear before the courts yesterday to answer to their separate charges.
According to reports, the youths were brought from the Diamond/Grove police station and since they could not be placed among the adult prisoners, they were being held at Alberttown, pending their court appearance.
However, the youths who have been described as seasoned criminals picked their handcuffs and bolted from the station, leaving two bewildered ranks behind.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the juveniles is a well known motorcycle thief. He has been charged with stealing five motorcycles, three of which have been recovered.
