Man, wife nabbed with cocaine and ganja
An East Canje man and his wife are now behind bars after they were apprehended with a quantity of cocaine and marijuana at their home.
Shalwar Grant, called ‘Just Cut’, 41, and his wife Caliya Caple, 29, both of Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice, were on Thursday remanded to jail by Magistrate Shurdel Isaacs-Marcus when they appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. They pleaded not guilty.
According to prosecutor Sergeant Godfrey Playter, on April 4, last, the police acting on information swooped down on the couple’s home and carried out a search. They eventually unearthed the illegal substance hidden in a pants pocket in a bedroom.
They were arrested, told of the offence and taken to the station. The drugs were tested and weighed and found to be 3 grams of cocaine and five grams of marijuana.
They were subsequently charged.
Their next court date is Wednesday May 7, at the Reliance Magistrate’s court.
