Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) has announced that the Bartica Passenger vessel, MV Makouria, will be back in operation by April 7, 2014.

According to a statement from TH&D, approximately GYD $135M was injected in rehabilitation works on the vessel which regularly plies the Parika/Bartica route.
TH&D’s General Manager, Marcellene Merchant said that a significant part of the vessel including its hull, internals and super structures underwent major repairs.
“We also did works on the shafts, propellers, rudders, rudder stocks and everything pertaining to brushings… a new canteen was installed as well.” Ms. Merchant said.
“The plumbing system has been remedied, and we have repaired all domestic and sanitary pipelines….all defective electrical works were also corrected,” the T&HD General Manager added. “I must say the works were done to our satisfaction.”
The vessel has been at the dry dock of E.C Vieira Investment Limited for 30 days.
