Got To Go of the Jumbo Jet stable, which was guided by Colin Ross and running with a classification of D3, went all the way as it returned to winning ways. The animal carrying a weight of 108 pounds beat off a competitive field to take the feature C3 and lower 1700M event when the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Horse Owners Association held a grand one day meet last Sunday at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
Got To Go trained by Deonarine “Black Boy” Ramroop was out of the starting gates quickly with California Strike, the newly imported Jack is my Style, the Message and Milwaukee Blitz all in the running. Into the back stretch, there were some jostling and the contest looked wide open as the animals battled for the hefty $1M winnings up for grabs. But it was soon realized that the horse to beat was Got To Go as it again took the lead.
Maintaining its composure and running well, the racehorse was pointing them into the homestretch as California Strike returned to challenge with C P Got Even came into the reckoning. However, Got To Go had enough in its tank to beat off California Strike and the fast finishing C.P Got Even to take the top prize compliments of Banks DIH Limited. Jack is My Style finished fourth.
The 1300M race for three year old Maiden and West Indies bred horses saw Royal Empire of the Colin Elcock stable with R. Ramnauth on the hunch making sure the Elcock stables returned to winning ways in royal style. The animal blazed down the homestretch, bursting past front runner Release the Beast, I will Get Another and Quiet Dancer to take the $600,000 purse and trophy.
Quiet Strom of the Ramotar Stable with Ajai on the perch silenced its opponents with victory in the F and lower 1200M sprint to take the $500,000 winner’s money and trophy, from Appealing Harvest, Traditional Man and Mission King.
Rose Mohammed of The Jumbo Jet Stable is all smiles as she collects the winning trophy in the feature C class event for Got To Go win.
The Jumbo jet stable was one two winners in the four year old 1700M race with Princess Alicia with Colin Ross, edging out It’s My Turn for the $500,000 top prize and trophy as Silent Night and Another Jet rounded out the money.
Joyful Victory of the Jagdeo Stable with Trinidadian Nicholas Patrick took the $400, 000 and trophy winning the G3 and lower 1200M event from Quiet Storm, Silent Night and Monsoon.
Cat Messiah of the Gansham Singh Stable with Paul Delph returned to winning ways as it took care of business in the ‘I’ class 1200M event, taking home the $ 250,000 first prize and trophy ahead of Mary Ann, Savion and I want Revenge.
Windy Killer with Ramnauth won the J and lower 1000M race and the $200,000 and trophy.
The top individual prizes on offer compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers went to Jockey Colin Ross, the Jumbo Jet stable again rode away with the top stable accolade, while Deonarine “Black Boy” Ramroop and Sham “Short Man” Singh of the Jumbo Jet Stable the top trainers.
Over $8.5M in prizes were at stake and some 80 horses entered for the event.
The day’s event was incident free and the police lead by Cadet Officer Dufu was again commended for their excellent work. (Samuel Whyte)
