Outfitted with a new 1800cc Turbo engine and a sequential gear box, Group 4 racer Danny Persaud expects the machine to be faster and more competitive for the upcoming Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) March 23 Race Meet set for the South Dakota Circuit.
Persaud, who drives a Mazda Miata, speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday at the team’s garage on Garnett Street, expressed optimism about the car’s anticipated improved speed, adding that the increased
horsepower is certain to boost his chances of doing well.
“The installation of the new engine should provide me with more power and of the two cars that I have this one is better prepared, we started much earlier than usual and I expect to be very competitive,” Persaud told this newspaper.
The effervescent driver, who participated in seven races at the November 2013 Caribbean Motor racing Championship and produced some creditable results informed that he is once again hoping to have a busy day come race day and fans could expect a special display from him.
He rated former champions Mark Vieira and Andrew King, current champion Kevin Jeffrey and Irfaan Kalamadeen as those who he will have to fight hard to defeat.
“These guys have some very fast cars, but I’ve shown repeatedly that I could mix it up with them given the right machine which I certainly feel that I have now,” the diminutive racer said.
Persaud informed that his preparations started very early and he is eager to finish off total preparations to have enough seat time and make the necessary adjustments if needed.
The local speedster is planning to compete in both the Group 3 and 4 categories so fans could expect him to be vying for top honours.
Persaud extended thanks to Banks DIH under its Banks Beer product and Buy Me Auto Sales for their support over the years.
