Barnwell, Johnson also among the runs

Assad Fudadin batted all day yesterday to end the third day of the four-day practice match between the National team and a Rest Combination at the National Stadium, Providence unbeaten on 117 as the Guyana side reached 257-4, enjoying a lead of 260 going into the final day today.

The 28-year-old left-hander, who began his innings on Thursday afternoon, has batted for 450 minutes so far, reaching the boundary 15 times as the Rest Team bowlers toiled all on a docile track and only took three wickets to show for their day’s work.
While Fudadin, with three Tests and three First-Class centuries to his name, played the sheet-anchor role, Chris Barnwell thumped five fours in an attractive 59 and added 110 runs with Fudadin for the fourth wicket before he fell to left-arm spinner Anthony Adams at 186-4.
Earlier in the day Johnson was forced to retire hurt on the overnight score of 46-1 after Sewnarine Chattergoon (6) was bowled by pacer Raun Johnson at 11-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Yesterday the Nationals lost Chanderpaul Hemraj off spinner Zaheer Mohamed for 20 at 67-2 and Narsingh Deonarine (5) LBW to Royston Crandon 10 runs later.
Barnwell and Fudadin then carried the score to 186 and Johnson returned at the demise of Barnwell and against a generally innocuous bowling attack to feature in an unbroken 71-run fifth wicket partnership with Johnson finishing unbeaten on 46 with four fours.
Today is the final day and play is expected to commence at 10:00hrs. (Sean Devers)
