To curb Essequibo electricity woes, the facility that is installed and is supposed to power the Region with effective electricity, at Anna Regina Power Plant needs to be equipped with a voltage regulator.
Reliable source have confirmed that while the lengthy periods of blackout experienced in Region Two was as of a result of a damaged voltage regulator.
A replacement was had from the Power Company but turned out to be incompatible. No further replacement has been sent. The result is that the generator is operating on a “makeshift system”.
Reports from the power plant have suggested while technicians are trying to facilitate Essequibians with regular electricity, their efforts would only succeed if critical spare parts are being furnished to effect the smooth flow of electricity daily.
A section of the Essequibo Coast experienced eight hours of blackout on Boxing Day. On Sunday December 22, last, the Coast was without electricity for hours. There had been 24 hours of power outage previously. That, according to the company, was due to a main circuit being damaged during intense rainfall.
Business outlets, including the Region Two Administration were forced to purchase generators to facilitate their business operations.
The power station was installed in 1995.
