Dear Editor
I am writing this letter to highlight a disturbing situation we are encountering in Region Eight in anticipation that the subject ministry would allow good judgment to prevail and lead to the necessary adjustment as early as possible.
Our Region is made up of two sub Regions. Sub-Region 1 has 27 schools while Sub-Region 2 has nine schools.
The Region has an Education Officer and a Deputy Education Officer and both of them are stationed in Sub-Region 2.
I have been living and working in this Region for over 20 years and always knew that when the region has two Education Officers one is stationed in Sub-Region 1 and the other in Sub- Region 2 just as how the Regional Chairman is based in one Sub- Region and the Regional Vice Chairman is based in the other Sub-Region. Similarly, the Regional Executive Officer and the AREO are stationed in different sub regions.
To have both Education Officers stationed in Sub-Region 2 which has only nine schools and to leave Sub-Region 1 that has 27 schools without any Education Officer is rather unfair to the residents there.
It clearly shows that these guys really don’t have much interest in the development of education in that Sub-Region.
I am not prepared to sit idle and allow our children in the Region to suffer unnecessary in this Region. After all I have a moral obligation as a concerned resident of Region Eight to ensure that all communities receive equal service.
I would like the Ministry of Education to look into this matter and address this situation with some amount of urgency. Naieem Gafoor Regional Democratic Councillor Region Eight
